where we are
At St Apple Hurst Coffee, based in the village of Staplehurst, Kent, we take real pride in our roots and our role as the first speciality coffee business to set up in the area. Since 2015, we’ve been selling exceptional small-batch roasted coffee, crafted with care and delivered with purpose.
We’re proud to serve our local community here in the heart of the Weald, as well as coffee lovers across Kent, the South East, and throughout England. Every roast is carefully developed to bring out the unique characteristics of each origin, reflecting our commitment to quality and flavour.
Whether you’re brewing at home, stocking your café, or visiting us in Staplehurst, you’ll experience the passion that drives everything we do.
From the Garden of England to kitchens and cafés nationwide—welcome to St Apple Hurst Coffee.

Where it all began
I’m a 1975 model, originally from Perthshire, Scotland, where I trained as a chef at Perth College UHI (University of the Highlands and Islands) and began my career working in kitchens across Scotland. I later moved to London, landing my first role in Holland Park, before quickly stepping into chef training—eventually helping to open over 40 pubs in a single year.
My culinary journey has taken me across the globe—from Tokyo as a pub chef, to Europe as a tour cook (catering for 50 young travellers across 16 countries), and as a ski chalet chef in France and Austria. I later worked as a bar manager in Switzerland, and returned to London as a youth hostel manager—where I met my now wife.
We eventually made our home in Staplehurst, Kent, where I launched St Apple Hurst Coffee—born out of a lifelong love for great food and drink, and a passion for truly excellent coffee. As a stay-at-home dad to two daughters, I wanted to build a business that worked around family life, while sharing something I genuinely love.
I carefully source the finest beans from around the world to create a diverse range of flavours—roasting in small batches to bring out the best in every cup. You can order online as whole beans or pre-ground, or pop by one of Kent’s farmers' markets to try our signature blend, the Kentish Dragon.
